Companies from across the UAE will be looking to make their mark on the pitch and showcase their sporting prowess among business rivals at the forthcoming Zurich Corporate Touch 6s Tournament.

The 2019 tournament takes place on Friday, March 15, at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club, Dubai.

The annual event – now in its eighth year – encourages staff to swap the stresses and strains of office life for a dose of healthy competition in a fun and informal environment. With 28 teams registered to take part this year, the event’s popularity continues to grow as more businesses recognise the importance of balancing hard work with wellbeing to support a healthy, happy and motivated workforce.

Victoria Hepworth, partner at Corporate Affair Event Management, which organises the tournament, said: “One of the joys of touch as a sport is the fact that it is completely inclusive – anyone and everyone can play regardless of age, gender or experience.

“There are absolutely no restrictions, so it’s easy to see why it is so popular. Touch is energetic and fast-paced, so offers a complete body work out.

“For employers and their staff who are stuck behind a desk all week, it provides a great release and the chance to get fit and active in the fresh air and bond with colleagues outside of the business environment – all of which can also offer significant competitive advantages in the long term.”

Those companies which have already registered and have their eyes on the coveted trophy include Savills, JLL, JLT, King’s Education, Investors Trust, Aetna and Two Birds, while 2019 newbies include Barclays, DeVere, Kibsons and CMS.

The headline sponsor for the eighth consecutive year is Zurich. Matches tap off at 09:00 sharp and culminate with the finals at 17:00.

This year the event will also offer a free, dedicated Under 7s tag rugby competition, which aims to help support rugby at a grassroots level. A record 16 teams have registered to take part, seven of whom are from local clubs, including Dubai Tigers, Abu Dhabi Harlequins and Al Ain Amblers.

Touch and tag aside, there will also be a variety of kids entertainment, arts and crafts and food and beverages throughout the day.

Hepworth added: “What started off as a simple touch tournament has now grown into a fun and entertaining day out for the whole family.

“Whether cheering on from the sidelines or enjoying all the extra activities on offer, we hope friends and families will come along and show their support, while also enjoying a great day out in the Dubai sunshine.”

Be there: More than 2,000 participants are expected at Beach Run DXB

Presented in association with the Dubai Sports Council, Beach Run Dubai is the UAE’s first major beach race of the year. Competitors can compete in one of three races, which cater to all ages and abilities.

Those looking to just have some fun can take part in the 3.6km, for more serious competitors the 7.2km is more suitable, and for those with children the 1.8km family run is ideal. The event is a non-timed run, so those looking to record a time can do so, but it also takes any pressure off those just looking to take part in the fun.

When the race is over there’s also plenty of entertainment to be enjoyed. Food stalls, music and activities keep the whole family entertained within the Festival Village. Those not keen on the run itself can still come along and enjoy the Festival Village, which includes a live fitness work out for those with even more energy to burn after the Beach Run.

All on board: There will be fun for all the family

Over 2,200 runners are expected to take part in the event, which takes place in the shadows of Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab, the ideal spot to get that Insta-perfect photo.

Beach Run DXB is now in its fourth year having launched in 2016. Beach Run DXB has proved a huge success with runners and families over the past two years, and the 2019 event looks set to be the biggest so far. The event is fuelled by Gatorade and Aquafina, with Oakley and Emirates NBD as the main partners.

The three different race lengths mean it’s open to all ages. Last year saw a record 1,950 runners from a whopping 32 nationalities take part, with ages ranging from 18 months to 71-years-old collecting medals. As well as being a great way to get some exercise it’s also a brilliant way to spend time with the family and enjoy Dubai’s winter climate.
